By recruiting hundreds of Washburn students, faculty, staff, alumni and friends we can make a great impact in the Topeka community. What is the purpose of The Big Event?
The Big Event is a day of community service. It is an opportunity for the members of the Washburn University community to spend a day helping local nonprofits and community organizations. It’s a chance for Washburn to give back to the local community.
Who can volunteer for The Big Event?
Anyone directly affiliated with Washburn University can volunteer. This includes students, staff, faculty, alumni and friends. Everyone is encouraged to sign up!
Where do we meet the day of The Big Event?
Meet in the Living Learning Center on the Washburn campus for registration. You'll return after volunteering for lunch.
What should I wear or bring?
Check the weather before you arrive. Many jobs are outdoors so you may need to bring a sweatshirt or coat or rain coat. Volunteers should wear comfortable clothing and shoes. There is a good chance you will get a little dirty, so don’t wear anything nice that you don’t want damaged. Gloves are also a good idea!
