Letter from Dr. JuliAnn Mazachek

Washburn University's 15th president began on Feb. 1, 2023

Dr. JuliAnn Mazachek

Dear Alumni and Friends,

I am overwhelmed with joy to be home! Washburn University is such a special place to me and my family, and I am deeply humbled to serve as its next president at an important time in its history and at a critical time in higher education.

As a faculty member and administrator for more than 30 years, I have worked alongside many of you in helping advance Washburn’s mission. Two of my children graduated from Washburn, so I know firsthand the impact Washburn has on students and the life-changing difference it can make in people’s lives. And in 15 years as president of the Washburn University Alumni Association and Foundation, I have always been so inspired working with alumni and donors  who care so much about Washburn to  envision and build a bright and bold future for Washburn.

Washburn is vital to the city of Topeka and the state of Kansas. The work we do educating students, who will become the future work force, business owners, and thought leaders, will create a bright future and strong economy so our community and state can thrive. Our Washburn alumni help to create the University’s future and tell our story. Many of you have philanthropically and socially invested in Washburn after your time here as a student, and I look forward to working with the Alumni Association and Foundation to continue building and expanding the alumni and donor community. I am eager to hear your ideas on how Washburn can best move forward.

Together, we can keep pushing our great university to new heights and help expand the horizons of every Ichabod—the ones here now, and all those to follow.  I am so excited to join you for the incredible journey ahead.
