The Perfect Fit
Reagan Phelan finds perfect fit finding baskets at Washburn

Coming out of high school, Reagan Phelan, a sophomore guard on the women’s basketball team, knew wherever she decided to attend college, she wanted to get playing time as a freshman. Washburn University seemed to be the perfect fit.
Phelan hails from Holyrood, Kansas, where she attended Central Plains High School and was a part of a team that brought home three state championships. Now in her second year as an Ichabod, Phelan was averaging about 15.4 points per game entering the final week of the regular season, with better than an 80 percent free throw percentage. For as hard as she works out on the court, the kinesiology major understands the importance of hard work in the classroom.
“It can be difficult sometimes to balance both, since we travel a lot,” said Phelan. “It’s challenging, but it’s exciting to have the opportunity to do both.”
The scholarship she receives for playing basketball has also had a positive impact on her experience at Washburn.
“Everyone is working for this – to get a scholarship to play at a Division II or Division I school,” said Phelan. “I’m thankful that this opportunity makes it easier for me and my parents. I think it’s cool that someone out there wants to support me like that.”
After Washburn, Phelan plans on pursuing further education to become a physical therapist.
